The Texas Special FA No. 211 would be issued on two different occasions. First issued in 1962-63 and again in 1965-66. This diesel did not have a horn, but the powered unit had a light and was equipped with a two position directional unit whose control lever was adjustable from the top of the body.
A single vertical worm drive Type IIIB motor powers two axles. The lettering was heat-stamped on these units and the sheet metal chassis have solid non-operating couplers with open pilots that have large ledges.
There are two variations:
Variation A: With single axle magnetraction. Manufactured only in 1962.
Variation B: With traction tires and usually has a weight in the powered unit. 1963 and later production.
All of the Lionel Alco FA units are designed to work on the tighter radius of O27 Gauge track, but they will run equally well on O Gauge track.
