The Lionel Santa Fe FA No. 215 was issued uncataloged in 1964 and would head up several sets available through Sears and J.C. Penny Co. It was also available from J.C. Penny as part of set No. X924-8279A in 1966. These sets consisted in various combinations of AA and AB units. We’ve pictured the box top and side of one of these sets that were issued in 1964 below. This set, No. 19335, consisted of:

No. 6142 BLACK Gondola Car Variation A with WHITE unmarked cannisters.
No. 3362 GREEN Log Dump Car Variation B with rubber-stamped lettering.

Included track and a No. 1010 35 Watt Transformer.
Painted in the Santa Fe war bonnet paint scheme, it was equipped with one traction tire on the power truck. A two position directional unit whose control lever was adjustable from the top of the body controled the direction of this diesel. A single vertical worm drive Type IIIB motor powers two axles. The lettering was heat-stamped on these units and the sheet metal chassis have solid non-operating couplers. There are three variations:
Variation A: Came with a powered A Unit that shows a built date "BLT 8-57 / BY LIONEL" and a No. 212T dummy A unit.
Variation B: This No. 215 powered unit shows a built date "BLT / BY LIONEL" came with a No. 212T dummy A unit.
Variation C: Came with a No. 218C dummy B Unit that has been found with both types of built dates. |
