The Lionel Boston & Maine GP-9 No. 2359 would be the first issue of this diesel in 1961 and 1962. Produced on a BLUE painted body with BLACK painted cab and ends, this diesel was heat-stamped in BLACK and WHITE for the Boston & Maine Railroad herald.
This engine was equipped with Magnetraction, a horn that was operated by a battery that was housed in the center fuel tank, a three position directional unit whose control lever was adjustable from underneath the chassis that powers a single vertical worm drive motor.
The body was lighted at both ends that have operating disc couplers. There are no variations.
All of the Lionel GP-7 units will operate equally well on O and O27 Gauge track.
