The Lionel Virginian Fairbanks-Morse Trainmaster No. 2322 would reintroduce the Trainmasters again in 1965 and 1966. The lettering on this engine is rubber-stamped and the "VIRGINIAN" is the only one of this type of diesel that Lionel did not put their production number on the sides.

This diesel was equipped with Magnetraction, interior lights at both ends, dual vertical worm drive motors, horn, three position directional unit that is adjustable from the bottom, and operating disc couplers at both ends. Note the flanges on the wheels on the inner axles are missing. This is so that this engine could negotiate the tight radius of Lionel’s O gauge track. This engine will not operate on O27 track.

Some people have substituted the chassis of this engine on a body of the No. 2331 because of damage (usually battery) to its chassis. The only way to tell if this was done is to look at the motor armature windings. This version of this diesel has GREEN armature windings.

There are two variations:

Variation A: BLUE body that is painted YELLOW with a BLUE painted stripe and roof.

Variation B: BLUE body that is painted YELLOW with unpainted roof and stripe.
