The Lionel Lines SP Type Caboose No. 2357 was the first version of this caboose and featured many details that would later be removed to reduce production costs. However, the B and C Variations have two brake wheels, ladders, and tool boxes. Die 1 or 2 was used for the body and this caboose was equipped with staple-end trucks with one or two opeating coil couplers.

Produced in 1947 and 1948, the A Variation is RED with a RED smoke stack, but lacked the other features, the B Variation is TUSCAN, and the C Variation is that same as B, but has the brake wheels on the inside of the railings. This is believed to be the first production model, however, this arrangement caused problems in the assembly of the body to the chassis and later versions would have this wheel on the outside.
