The Coal Unloading Car No. 3456 was designed to work with the No. 456 Coal Ramp and was lettered for the Norfolk & Western Railroad. It was also offered for separate sale. Early editions of this car had staple-end trucks, while those that came later would have bar-end trucks (B Variation), and both of these variations had magnetic couplers.

This car would unload its coal into a bin located beneath the track on the No. 456 Coal Ramp. Some similar hopper cars made by MPC in the Modern Era will not work with this accessory because the alignment of the magnetic button on the track is not correct. This car was produced from 1950 until 1955.
