LIONEL TRAINS OPERATING TV MONITOR CAR No. 3545 |
The Operating TV Monitor Car No. 3545 was built around a BLACK flat car mold No. 6511-2 and used the upper mold of the No. 3540 Operating Radar Scanning Car that was a darker shade of BLUE and was modified for a different purpose. The monitor in front of the operator would show a scene of a Santa Fe diesel traveling down the tracks on the screen in front of the seated attendant. Since this screen was not lighted there is no center rail pick-up on the brake wheel end truck, which has a commonly found early AAR design truck with a disc coupler. |

The TV camera moves back and forth by means of an O-ring band that is frequently found in melted condition. See No. 3540 Operating Radar Scanning Car for details on how this feature worked. The camera man is identical to the scope operator and is held on by a thin pin that is easily broken since the camera assembly is not attached to the car superstructure and can be separated if the car is turned upside down or during a derailment. |
