The Lionel Gondola Car No. 6112 was cataloged between 1956 and 1958. Sometimes found in boxes with suffixes "-1", "-85", and "-135" that have no relevance. The car has a plain undercarriage and interior. It came with bar-end trucks during 1956 and later issues would have AAR trucks with disc couplers.

Usually came with either three or four RED canisters labeled, "LIONEL AIR ACTIVATED CONTAINER / CAPY 20000 / Lt Wt. 4400 / 61125". The last number is an abbreiviation of the actual part number 6112-25 which was available for separate sale. There are four variations:

Variation A: BLACK plastic body with WHITE lettering, four RED canisters, and bar-end trucks with magnetic couplers. Listed as "6112-50" in the Service Manual. 1956

Variation B: BLUE plastic body that usually came with early AAR trucks and three or four WHITE canisters. 1957

Variation C: BLACK plastic body with WHITE lettering. This variation came with three or four RED canisters, early AAR trucks equipped with disc couplers and is listed in the Service Manual as "6112". 1957

Variation D: WHITE plastic body with BLACK lettering that has early AAR trucks and three or four RED canisters. This is the most difficult variation to find. 1958
