Lionel Trains Lumber Car No. 6264The Lumber Car No. 6264 was designed to work with the No. 264 Operating Forklift accessory. Issued between 1957 and 1958, this car was contained within the No. 264 box, but was offered for separate sale only until 1958 even thought the No. 264 Operating Forklift accessory was available until 1960.

This car was not boxed within this accessory, but was only issued in a box for those cars that were sold separately. This makes an original box more difficult to obtain. It was produced on a 6511-2 RED body with WHITE heat-stamped lettering and number. The 6511-2 body mold was used because this frame had the mounting holes needed to hold the three lumber racks.

The lumber that was included with the car consisted of 12 each of the No. 6264-11 square timbers and was held in place by eight No. 2411-4 metal stakes. The instruction sheet states that these stakes should be mounted with the flat side facing in towards the car. The cars that were offered for separate sale contained the lumber and the stakes in an envelope numbered 6264-8. The stakes, lumber, and the racks that hold the lumber have been reproduced. There are two variations:

Variation A: RED body with the number "6264" to the right of the "LIONEL" inscription on the side. Came with bar-end trucks that are held in place by metal clips that slide into end slots in the car and by a flat-head phillips screw under the body. This car can have either tabbed or un-tabbed couplers. 1957 production.

Variation B: RED body with the number "6264" to the left of the "LIONEL" inscription on the side. Came with AAR trucks that are riveted directly to the body and have disc couplers. This is a rarer variation. 1958 production.
