The Lionel Chemical Tank CarsThe Gulf Chemical Tank Car No. 6315 was available between 1956 and 1958 and was reissued in the last two years of the Post War Period: 1968-69. There are obvious differences between these cars that were produced during these times and we’ve listed these in the variations below.

All of these tank cars have BLACK rubber-stamped lettering.

There are six variations:

No. 6315 Box End

Variation A: BLACK tank and end caps with painted glossy BURNT ORANGE bands and ORANGE "BLT 1-56" date on BLACK. Unpainted BLACK plastic frame and the bar-end trucks are mounted on a metal supports that are held by a single screw the goes through the frame and into the tank.

Variation B: Same as Variation A except with a semi-gloss BURNT ORANGE tank.

Variation C: Same as Variation A except with a flat BURNT ORANGE tank. This is the most common variation.

Variation D: Same as Variation A except with an ORANGE tank. This variation came with various finishes from glossy to semi-gloss.

Variation E: Unpainted ORANGE tank and end caps that is mounted on a BLACK plastic frame and is usually found with late AAR trucks with disc couplers. No built date. 1968-1969 production. The most common variation.

Variation F: Same as Variation E except with rubber-stamped "BLT 1-56" date. Produced in 1968-1969. Harder to find than Variation E.
