Lionel Trains Transformer Depressed Center Flat Car No. 2461Transformer Car No. 6461 was cataloged in 1949 and 1950 and replaced the No. 2461. However, unlike its predecessor, it came with magnetic instead of electronic coil couplers. This car came with a BLACK transformer. Close-up view of the Transformer decal

The transformer was decaled at the top with "Transformer" and an "L" in a circle on one side only. This decal is sometimes missing. The car is die-cast metal and uses Type 4 or Type 5a trucks. The four steps, and two brake wheels are often broken or missing, as are the insulators at the top of the transformer. Reproduction transformers are available, but their insulators are a semi-translucent color and are more flexible than the originals. Collectors should examine the insulators before purchasing this car. There are two variations:

Variation A: Is equipped with Type 4 trucks.

Variation B: Is equipped with Type 5a trucks.
