Derrick Car No. 6670 Variation E

Lionel Trains Derrick Flat Car No. 6670The Derrick Car No. 6670 was a cut down version of the No. 6660 and was available in 1959 and 1960. It did not have the base, or the outriggers, that were part of the No. 6660 and the derrick was directly hinged to the flat car frame. Came with AAR trucks with disc couplers. When Lionel started making these cars with AAR plastic trucks it moved the car number to the left of the "LIONEL" inscription on the sides of these cars. Yet, this car has this number on the right side. This is believed to be an error in the heat-stamping set up. There are five variations:

Variation A: used mold 6511-2 and was a DARKER RED color.
Variation B: same as Variation A, but used mold 6424-11.
Variation C: same as Variation A, but the number 6670 moved to the left of "LIONEL".
Variation D: same as Variation C, but used mold 6424-11.
Variation E: same as Variation D, but is a BRIGHTER RED color.
