LIONEL TRAINS DERRICK FLAT CAR No. 6670 |
The Derrick Car No. 6670 was a cut down version of the No. 6660 and was available in 1959 and 1960. The derrick was not attached to a stamped steel metal base. Instead the derrick was directly riveted to the flat car chassis. Also, gone were the stabilizing outriggers that came with the No. 6660. Despite this, the derrick car still offered a lot of play value. Which is why this car is hard to find today without the derrick rivet loosened where it is attached to the chassis of the car. This car was equipped with AAR trucks that are riveted to the chassis and both trucks have disc couplers. |
Variation A: Built on chassis No. 6511-2 casting with "6670" to the right of the "LIONEL" serif lettered inscription. Has a DARKER RED plastic color. Variation B: Identical as Variation A, but built on casting No. 6424-11. Variation C: Identical as Variation A, but the number "6670" moved to the left of the "LIONEL" serif lettered inscription. Variation D: Identical as Variation C, but built on casting No. 6424-11. Variation E: Identical as Variation D, but is a BRIGHTER RED color. |
