The Coal Elevator No. 97 had a Bakelite base and a superstructure made entirely out of SILVER painted sheet metal. It would take unloaded coal from one side and raise this load up by a chain and buckets and load them through a chute on the other side into a waiting car. Used with No. 3459 Operating Coal Car, this accessory offered a self-contained continuous operation. Available from 1946 until 1950, this loader is hard to find today with few paint chips. There are no known variations, however, some of these elevators have been reported with a mottled plastic base.
This coal elevator came with its own controller that is illustrated above. This controller had a knob to turn on the chain mechanism that would raise the coal to the tower and an UNLOAD button that would operate the chute and unload the coal into a car.
