Uncoupling Unit No. 1008 was available from 1957 until 1962 and is commonly referred to as the "Camtrol Unit." This manually controlled unit would lift the two sections that are on both sides of the center rail and engage the discs beneath the couplers on cars that are equipped AAR trucks.

During the period that this unit was in production Lionel would also offer it attached to a straight section of O27 Gauge track, as is illustrated above, under the No. 1008-50.
