The Automatic Crossing Gate No. 152 is often found without the pedestrian gate. This pre-war vintage gate had a complicated lowering mechanism that was easily fouled and many people just removed it. Produced during the post war period from 1945 until 1949 on a die-cast metal base that was painted RED, it sported a bayonet RED L431(R) Lamp on the end that would light up when the gate was lowered by a No. 153C Track Contactor. This was probably the first known use by Lionel of the bayonet lamp that dates to the prewar version of this gate in 1941!
This gate was replaced by the No. 252 in 1950, but unlike its replacement this gate had a secondary smaller pedestrian arm that was designed to block traffic on an adjacent road walkway. All post war versions of this pedestrian arm are painted SILVER and they are difficult to adjust. Many have been lost or removed over the years. |
