Lionel Trains Locomotive No. 1862 B Variation

Lionel Trains Locomotive No. 1862The Lionel American Type 4-4-0 Locomotive No. 1862 is a nice replica of the famous Civil War "General." This locomotive was issued in 027 sets between 1959 and 1962, and it differed from its O Gauge No. 1872 counterpart in the following ways:

BB It has a two position directional unit
BB It did not have Magnetraction
BB It lacked a smoke unit
BB Some of the boiler details are missing

BLACK chassis, with GUNMETAL colored boiler, RED cab and GREEN No. 1862T tender labeled for the "Western and Atlantic Railroad." The 1959-60 production of this locomotive would have a RED lantern and the screw on the rear of the cab would be a small round head that protruded from the back. By 1960, Lionel would switch to a flat head screw that would be countersunk in plastic and it would not be as visible as the previous production.

Set No. 1800 Box Top View

First issued in 1959 as "The General Frontier Pack" Set No. 1800, the box for this set is illustrated above and the side view is shown below. Also issued in this set is a rarely found booklet describing "The Great Locomotive Chase" on the Western & Atlantic Railroad that made the "General" locomotive famous. The back and the front covers of this booklet are shown below.
