Lionel Trains FA AA Unit DieselsThe Lionel Union Pacific FA No. 2023 would be the first of the Alco FAs that Lionel issued on their 50th Anniversary of making electric trains in 1950.

The powered unit was equipped with Magnetraction, a horn that was operated by a D Cell battery, and a three position directional unit whose control lever was adjustable from underneath the chassis. A single vertical worm drive motor powers two axles and the lettering was heat-stamped on these units. There are three variations:

Variation A: YELLOW body with RED stripes and lettering, and GRAY hood in front of the cab, roof, and truck side frames. Lionel had a problem in applying this GRAY paint to the hood, and after the first issues in 1950 it would be discontinued, resulting in:

All of the Lionel Alco FA units are designed to work on the tighter radius of O27 Gauge track, but they will run equally well on O Gauge track.
