The Lionel Rock Island FA A Unit No. 231 was produced from 1961 until 1963 on a sheet metal frame that had solid non-operating couplers. This diesel has a two-position directional unit whose control lever is adjustable from the top, and two axle Magnetraction, an interior light, but no horn. Open pilot body mold with a large lower ledge.
The body of this Alco unit was painted BLACK with WHITE heat-stamped lettering. The RED stripe on Variation A is sometimes found in faded condition caused by exposure to direct sun light. This color change is visible in the side view illustrated below when compared to the BRIGHT RED of the front view. |
