Lionel Trains F-3 B Unit DieselsThe Southern F-3 No. 2356C B Unit was available from 1954 until 1956 and was released for separate sale the same years as the No. 2356 A Unit sets were offered. Like the A Units, the GREEN body has a painted GRAY lower stripe with a narrow YELLOW rubber-stamped stripe and lettering. The body has louvered roof vents and snap in porthole lenses. The chassis and trucks are painted BLACK. There are solid non-operating metal couplers at each end. The Southern was the only road name in which Lionel printed the production number on the sides of the body. There are no variations.

All of the Lionel F-3’s are designed to work on the larger radius of O Gauge track. When used with O27 Gauge track this diesel will scrape the switch machine housing on the early version of the No. 1122 O27 Switches when passing through the curved turnout. Evidence of scrapes on the fuel tank of these diesels is a sure indication of operation on O27 track.
