The Lionel Columbia Type 2-4-2-Locomotive No. 248 was released uncataloged only in 1958. The BLACK painted plastic locomotive is controlled by a two position unit whose control lever would protrude through the top of its Type III body right in front of the cab. This engine is weighted both in front and rear to aid in its tractive effort.
There is a headlight lens in the front of the boiler, but this locomotive is not lighted. A WHITE heat-stamped number adorns the cab and the "LIONEL LINES" markings on the No. 1130T tender that accompanied this locomotive. The tender came with AAR trucks with one operating disc coupler.
This locomotive is identical to the No. 249 except for the number change and the lack of a RED ORANGE stripe along the running board.
This locomotive was designed to work on O27 Gauge track and it will also run on O Gauge track. There are no variations of this locomotive.
