The 2500 Series Observation CarsThe Santa Fe Vista Valley Observation Car No. 2561 was first available in 1959 and continued in production until 1961. There are left and right side people silhouette inserts on the interior of the windows. It came with Type VIII die-cast four-wheel passenger trucks equipped with magnetic couplers.

This flat channeled extruded aluminum observation car has SILVER painted end top, skirt, and vestibule end.

Note in the rear view illustrated to the right the BROWN dried glue stains around the edges of the stripes indicating that these stripes are original.

This car has RED stripes that have SILVER lettering. Lionel made two different stripes for this car and they are sometimes found mix-matched on individual cars. This accounts for the two variations:

Variation A: The "SANTA FE" lettering is 2-13/16" long on the stripe.

Variation B: The "SANTA FE" lettering is 3-1/8" long on the stripe.

This car was designed to work on the larger radius of O gauge track only.
