LIONEL TRAINS McCALL’S NESTLE’S BOX CAR No. 6044-1X
The McCall’s Nestle’s Promotional Box Car No. 6044-1X was one of many cars that Lionel produced for promotional purposes during the late post-war period. These were limited run cars, and this car used the 6014 casting, and paper applied advertising for McCall’s magazine and Nestle’s Quick. Not much is known about the origins of this car, however, it is known that this car was available in the Chicago area through Grocerland Supermarket around 1961.
Fraudulent examples have been created so the collector should be aware that this car uses a Type I body (No. 6044-3), and is usually found with arch-bar trucks that have solid non-operational couplers. It was housed in an ORANGE perforated box with over stamp "6044-1X" on the end flap. The side poster has aged over the years and the carbon tetrachloride glue that was used has turned brown similar to what is found on the 2500 Series Passenger Cars that have flat channel strips.
