State of Maine Box Car No. 6464-275State of Maine Box Car No. 6464-275 was available in 1955, and again between 1957 and 1959. These box cars are actually numbered "6464275." Productions spanned three different body types with a total of seven variations. These variations are listed below. Those cars with Type IIa and IIb bodies have bar-end trucks with magnetic (some have tabs) couplers. Cars with Type III bodies have AAR trucks.

The State of Maine Multi-Block Door
spacer
Lionel developed the Multi-block box car door specifically because of the graphics that were needed to produce this car. This car has the most door variations in the 6464 Box Car Series.

Early 1955 productions have a solid unpainted RED plastic door with WHITE rubber-stamped lettering. In mid-1955 Lionel started to paint these doors RED with bands of BLUE and WHITE. This WHITE color is sometimes referred to as "IVORY" because it is a different shade than the WHITE stripe on the car.
spacer
During the 1957-59 production these doors were unpainted ROYAL BLUE that have RED and WHITE painted stripes. Production was such that unpainted MAROON doors were also used and this necessitated that all three colored bands had to be painted on these doors.
spacer
Because these doors can be changed no premium is offered for these differences with the exception of the initial 1955 production of the unpainted RED door.
