LIONEL TRAINS RIO GRANDE BOX CAR No. 6464-650
The Rio Grande Box Car No. 6464-650 was available in 1957 and 1958 and was again produced in 1966. Most commonly found with a unpainted YELLOW body mold with a SILVER roof, and SILVER painted band at the bottom of the body sides and doors. A heat-stamped BLACK stripe that separates the colors and is used for the car data and railroad logo. Note that this car is numbered "6464650." Cars that were produced in 1957-58 have bar-end trucks and those made in 1966 have AAR trucks.
There are three variations: Variation A: Produced on an unpainted YELLOWType IIB body and imprinted on the sides "BLT 6-57 / BY LIONEL." Variation B: Produced on an unpainted GRAYType IV body that has a YELLOW painted sides and roof and is painted SILVER below the BLACK heat-stamped line on the sides. Imprinted on the sides "BLT 6-57 / BY LIONEL." A rare variation. Variation C: Produced on an unpainted YELLOWType IV body that is imprinted "BLT / BY LIONEL." 1966 Production.
Factory Errors:
There are two known factory errors that occurred during the manufacture of this box car: Variation A: Unpainted YELLOWType IIB body that has SILVER painted lower sides, roof, and doors, but the BLACK heat stamped color dividing line is missing on the left half of one of the sides. Variation B: Unpainted YELLOWType IIB body that has GRAY doors without the heat-stamped BLACK lettering or dividing stripe on both sides.
