The Lionel Liquefied Gas Car No. 6469 was only available in 1963 and was produced on a lighter ORANGE/RED mold 6424-11 with No. 6805 rail stops and frame rail extensions. For more information about frame rail extensions See No. 6820. This car was not numbered.
The load was a large cardboard cylinder that has a pre-printed glossy WHITE paper that is wrapped around it and glued in place. The WHITE painted steel cylinder end caps are crimped in place. The cylinder was lettered "Lionel," in script with an "ERIE" herald to the right.
The cylindrical load is often improperly installed on No. 6467, or No. 6477. This car is found with two AAR trucks with disc couplers, or with one disc coupler and one solid non-operating coupler.
A very good copy of the "Liquefied Gases" tank has been reproduced so collectors should be cautious when purchasing this car. |
