The Missile Firing Trail Car No. 6544 used the chassis of the No. 6519 Allis-Chalmers Car, to which Lionel added the top missile firing platform. This same platform was used on the No. 448 Missile Firing Range Set but without the control panel imprint. The Missile Firing Trail Car would hurl its missiles in sequence across a room at any target by using the RED firing knob.
Used four missiles No. 44-40 that were weighted and came a manila envelope. There is storage space on the car to hold four additional missiles in a vertical position, however only four came with this car. Slightly shorter reproduction missiles are available.
Made from 1960 until 1964, this car has heat-stamped lettering on the sides and came with AAR trucks that have disc couplers. It is difficult to find this car with the brake wheels intact. This is because for this car to fit inside its ORANGE picture box the couplers had to be turned inward. This placed the brake stands right up against the box ends where they were more prone to be broken. Collectors should examine the underside of the car for evidence of cracking to the chassis at the brake stands.
There are two variations:
Variation A: Has WHITE heat-stamped control panel.
Variation B: Has BLACK heat-stamped control panel. This variation is harder to find.
