Gray Bus from the V-10 Vehicle Assortment

It wasn’t until 1954 that the citizens of the "Plastic Village" had the means to get around town. That was the year that Bachmann came out with the V-10 Vehicle Assortment. The V-6 followed two years later. Bachmann would never issue the vehicles contained in these assortments separately. The only way to obtain them was by purchasing these assortments, or getting them in the "Master Units," or selected individual kits.

The problem with these assortments is the box, which was very flimsy. These were the only boxes that were issued that had an open front displaying the contents behind a clear cellophane wrapper. This wrapper is easily lost and the boxes are easily crushed. People just didn’t properly care for these items, which is why it is so hard to locate an intact box today, especially one that has the clear cellophane front.

The following colors were issued for these vehicles:
Jet Airplanes: SILVER
Automobiles: RED, ORANGE, YELLOW, GREEN, DARK GREEN, PASTEL BLUE,
GRAY BLUE, TURQUOISE, DARK BLUE, AQUA, BLACK

Fire Trucks: RED
Ambulances: ORANGE, GRAY, DARK BLUE
Buses: ORANGE, GRAY, DARK BLUE

Two Styles of Cars!
There are two different molds that Bachmann used to create these automobiles. The different types are easily distinguished by the presence of a hood ornament. Shown to the far left is an automobile without the hood ornament, to its right, is one that has the ornament.Plasticville Automobile Inscription

It is unknown which colors of these autos came in the different styles.

Another way to tell the difference between Plasticville autos and a different manufacturer is to look on the underside of the vehicle. All Plasticville vehicles are inscribed as is illustrated to the right.

The most difficult color to find is the DARK BLUE of any vehicle. Also hard is the ORANGE color and the BLACK automobile.

The Plasticville Blue Bus

The Dark Blue Bus
This is the most difficult of the vehicles to find. It is believed to have originated in the Lionel Highway Set No. 955 and the Lionel Vehicle Set No. 958 that were sold under license from Bachmann in 1958 only.
