The Lionel Columbia Type 2-4-2-Locomotive No. 1101 would be available only during 1948 as part of the "Scout Sets" that Lionel issued during this year. The number "1101" is rubber stamped on the cab that featured a nice interior, and a nickel bell and whistle on top of the boiler. A three position directional unit whose control lever protrudes through the top of the boiler just in front of the cab, controls the direction of the engine. This is a stripped down version of the No. 1655 and it used the same motor. The No. 1101T tender was rubber-stamped "LIONEL SCOUT," was of all sheet metal construction, and was equipped with early scout trucks. This locomotive was designed to work on O27 track, but will also run on the larger radius O gauge track.

This locomotive’s boiler would later be used on the No. 230, 240 and 250 series of production locomotives. There are no variations.
