A three position directional unit whose control lever protrudes through the top of the boiler just in front of the cab, controls the direction of the engine. This is a stripped down version of the No. 1655 and it used the same motor. The sheet metal No. 1101T tender was rubber-stamped "LIONEL SCOUT" and was equipped with early scout trucks. There are two variations:
Variation A: The SILVER number under the cab was rubber-stamped "1001" in error. A rare variation. Also see: No. 1001.
Variation B: The number under the cab is properly numbered "1101." This is the common version of this locomotive.
This locomotive’s boiler would later be used on the No. 230, 240 and 250 series of production locomotives. It was designed to work on O27 Gauge track, but will also run on the larger radius O Gauge track.
