The Lionel Gantry Crane No. 282 would perform the same function as the No. 182 Magnetic Crane save that it would straddle the track to lift scrap metal from a waiting car. First issues of this accessory are reported to have included rails with ties that would allow horizontal movement (Variation D). Other variations include:

BLACK electro magnet and GRAY stack (Variation A)
SILVER painted magnet, BLACK stack that is glued on (Variation B)
Same as A, but with a RED crane cab (Variation C)
Same as B, but with GRAY stack (Variation E)

Came with a No. 282C Controller that was designed to work with this accessory. The cab is sometimes found on the No. 6460 Crane Car, but this is not factory production. Produced from 1954 until 1957.

Dimensions: 7" long, 5-1/2" wide, 3-1/2" track span, 10-1/2" high measured to the top of the cab’s stack.
