The Helicopter Launching Car No. 3419 was available from 1959 until 1965, and came with early AAR trucks equipped with disc couplers. This car would release the helicopter with the use of a 6019 or USC uncoupling tracks after it had been wound manually. Early cars would have a larger 2 inch winder and later cars would have a 1-1/4 inch winder. There were many types of helicopters issued that would work with this car and they are easily substituted. See this Helicopter Type chart for details. The car shown above left is the (C) variation with a Type A helicopter (Note: the large winder) and to its right is the (F) variation with a Type C helicopter. There are six known variations of this car that have to do with the BLUE color of the car and the size of the winders. Note: These helicopters have been reproduced.
