Lionel Trains Searchlight Car No. 6520The Searchlight Car No. 6520 has eight variations that were produced over a limited three year period: 1949 to 1951. These variations have to do with the color of the generator and the finish of the searchlight housing:
Variation A: TAN generator (production prototype)
Variation B: GREEN generator, glossy BLACK light housing
Variation C: GREEN generator, glossy GRAY light housing
Variation D: GREEN generator, GRAY crinkle light housing
 Variation E: MAROON generator smooth GRAY light housing
Variation F: MAROON generator, GRAY crinkle light housing
Variation G: ORANGE generator, smooth GRAY light housing
Variation H: ORANGE generator, GRAY crinkle light housing

Crinkle Finished SeachlightThere were other distinctions among these variations like the color of the fiber switch unit that would allow the light to be turned off and on with the use of a 6019 or UCS remote control operating track section.

All of these cars were built on a cast metal depressed center chassis that were painted LIGHT GRAY with BLACK rubber-stamped lettering "6520 LIONEL LINES 6520." These cars had one brake wheel and came equipped with staple-end trucks and magnetic couplers.
