The airplanes are found in with two different shades of YELLOW. These airplanes differed from those that were used on the later issued No. 6500 in that the wings were held together with three rivets. Also, there is no lettering on the wings as exists on the planes that come with the No. 6500. Reproduction airplanes have been produced and some of the earliest of these even included the inscription that was on the originals, and because of this, these they are very difficult to detect. The original airplanes were marked on the bottom "No. 6800-60 AIRPLANE / THE LIONEL CORPORATION / NEW YORK NY / MADE IN U.S. OF AMERICA". There are four variations: |
