LIONEL TRAINS AIRPLANE FLAT CAR No. 6800 |
The Airplane Flat Car No. 6800 came with a Beechcraft Bonanza airplane that was either YELLOW over BLACK or these colors were reversed. Lionel sold these airplanes separately under the number 6800-60. Early issues of this car in 1957 would have bar-end trucks, while later issues have AAR trucks with disc couplers. This car was not produced after 1960. The airplanes are found in with two different shades of YELLOW. These airplanes differed from those that were used on the later issued No. 6500 in that the wings were held together with three rivets. Also, there is no lettering on the wings as exists on the planes that were included with the No. 6500. |
Reproduction airplanes have been produced and some of the earliest of these even included the inscription that was on the originals. Because of this, these they are very difficult to detect. The original airplanes were marked on the bottom "No. 6800-60 AIRPLANE / THE LIONEL CORPORATION / NEW YORK NY / MADE IN U.S. OF AMERICA". |
Variation C: Produced on a No. 6511-2 mold with the number to the right of the "LIONEL" inscription on the side. This was not the normal production for cars with AAR trucks. |
