Culvert Car No. 6342 A Variation

Lionel Trains Culvert Car No. 6342The Operating Culvert Car No. 6342 was designed to work with the No. 342 Culvert Loading Station and the No. 345 Culvert Unloading Station. This modified gonola car came with a BLACK metal channel that would allow the culverts to roll to one end of the car. Produced from 1956 until 1958, this RED unpainted car has "NYC" lettering that is overscored on the side, and would have Type 7 bar-end trucks with tabbed couplers (Variation A). Also released uncataloged in 1964-68, and cataloged in 1969, this variation (C) would come with late AAR trucks on a Type 2b body. The easiest way to tell them apart is that the C Variaion has no "NEW" date written on the side.
