THE 2454 SERIES BOX CARS

These 9-1/4 Inch Box Cars all have the car number designation of X2454. Produced in 1946 and 1947, Lionel would use these cars to perfect the manufacturing techniques that would be used on the 6454 cars starting in 1948. With new injected plastic molds for the bodies Lionel would install metal doors left over from prewar production.

No. X2454 PENNSYLVANIA - Produced in 1946 only, orange with black lettering, numbered "65400," black PRR logo to right of door. Variations:

(A) Orange painted metal doors, Type 2 trucks.
(B) Brown painted metal doors, Type 2 or Type 3a trucks.

Lionel used up left over prewar production doors on these cars with the brown door being slightly less common.

No. X2454 BABY RUTH - 1946-47, orange painted plastic body, brown-painted metal doors, "Enjoy / CURTISS/ Baby Ruth / CANDY" to the left of the door in black script; PRR logo in black, one large and one small hole in the middle of the frame, steps at all corners, frame held to body by screws at corners, Type 3 trucks.
