LIONEL TRAINS FLAT CARS

Flat Cars were used by Lionel to carry all manner of loads during the post war years. Everything from barrels to logs, to Christmas trees were carried on these cars. No other car was more universally found among the trains sets that Lionel produced.

The cars are listed in numerical order by Lionel’s production numbers which is usually shown on the side of the car. If the car has no number refer to our No Number listing below.

We’ve listed these unnumbered cars by their color, type, and the load that they carried. They are listed in alphabetical order by the type of loads that they originally had. The types listed are: Bulkhead: defines those cars that came with bulkhead ends on No. 6511-2 and No. 6424-11 molds. Depressed Center: defines cars that are derived from the No. 6418 mold. Stamped Steel: are cars that were created from the No. 6111 casting. Truss: are derived from mold No. 1877-3 whether they have the truss cables or not. Late Log or Helium Tank: are derived from the late post war log unloading car No. 3361. Other cars that are not listed by type are all derived from the No. 6511-2 and/or the No. 6424-11 molds.
